Susan Di Giulio
Partner, COO
Senior Project Manager, Director of Development
LEED AP, ENV SP, Fitwel Ambassador, California Registered Architect
As Senior Project Manager, Susan has a thorough knowledge of multiple sustainability certification systems. She is accredited in LEED and has managed nearly 30 projects to certification; Fitwel, a system focusing on occupant wellbeing; and Envision, a sustainability system for infrastructure projects. Her education and prior work experience in architecture gives her a deep understanding of the design and construction process, team roles, timetables, and priorities. As Director of Development, Susan seeks new opportunities for ZC Sustainability to improve the environmental performance of the buildings and infrastructure around us.
Susan’s work has always been motivated by a passion to harmonize her love of the natural world with the best of the human social experience: before the phrase was coined, she was seeking to create sustainable cities. As a young woman, Susan attended the first Earth Day in New York 1970 and has been active in the environmental movement ever since. When she became a LEED AP in 2006, her activism evolved from protest to profession.
Susan came to ZC Sustainability’s predecessor, Zinner Consultants, from a career in architecture. During the 1990s, as sole proprietor of Di Giulio Design, she designed and executed residential, retail, restaurant, and commercial projects. Prior to that, she worked on many institutional projects in Boston and Los Angeles, and worked in Italy for 18 months on a variety of high-end, contemporary retail installations within centuries-old buildings. From that experience, she developed a special interest in the reuse of historic structures. This led her to develop a project and a supporting NGO for the City Museum of Salvador, the first capital of Brazil.
