Magic Johnson Park receives Time Out L.A.’s 2021 Best of the City Green Space award

Named after the Lakers legend, this handsome new South L.A. park earned USGBC-LA’s distinction of “Project of the Year.” “It’s a model of a sustainable park design for a community in need of more green infrastructure in the 21st-century with a new, multipurpose community event center; a really beautiful lakeside loop trail with picnic areas, fitness equipment and scenic viewpoints; a children’s play area and outdoor classroom; a wedding area; and native landscaping,” says Stapleton of the stormwater-recycling space. “What was a brownfield site and artificial lakes is now a social, cultural and recreational activity hub for an underserved community.”
